what makes us as we are
.:meet our staff:.
Joel Daniel Harris is the Director of Jr. High Inreach at The Chapel. He graduated from Malone College shortly after the vernal equinox of 2004. He enjoys using large words, speaking in the third person, and being tall. Most of the time. Many people have asked Joel Daniel how tall he is, and he usually answers six foot four and a half. He used to give other answers than that, but he’s grown since then. Many people also ask Joel Daniel how he got so tall. He usually tells them it takes a lot of practice. What can we say…he doesn’t have a very good sense of humor. Actually, it’s a dumb question to begin with, so he can’t really be faulted for his quippy answer.
Joel Daniel’s passion is to see Jr. High students embrace their faith in real and personal ways and live it out on and everyday basis. More than just about anything else he loves leading students in times of worship, hoping it will spill over into a life of worship.
Joel Daniel enjoys foosball, playing his guitar, random journaling, traveling abroad, anything outdoors (like rock climbing, caving, canoeing, etc.), and the smell of fall. He also has a peculiar obsession with his middle name. His favorite music varies weekly…but includes the likes of MAE, Anathallo, Arcade Fire and the David Crowder Band. His favorite movie is probably Garden State, but he wouldn’t necessarily recommend general viewership.
A couple blasts from the past include 10 years on staff (including three as Summer Camp Director) at Camp Gideon and 3 years (and his entire childhood) interning at Canton First Friends Church.

Eric Douglas Hays is the Director of Jr. High Outreach at The Chapel. He graduated from the University of Akron with a degree in video philosophy. That's actually two separate courses of study, but it sounds quite a bit niftier when combined. He recently completed the internship program at The Chapel, receiving his Master's of Arts in Christian Ministries from Trinity. He excels at loving his wife, Adrienne, and being shorter than Joel.
Eric's heart for students is evident all the time. He both readily relates to them and challenges them in their walk with Christ. He's served as in his role of Jr. High Director since the winter of 2006/2007, though has been on staff at The Chapel since the spring of 2004.
Eric loves leading others in worship through song, something he does occasionally at the Illuminate service on Sunday nights. He also is an avid Cleveland sports fan.
